Bicyclist Hit by Motorist – 2nd Update
Capt. Randy Foster of the Los Alamos Police Department said this evening that the collision involving the mini van that hit a bicyclist from behind near TA-16 Monday is not a simple case in which an officer just writes a traffic ticket.
Foster explained in an interview this evening that while police visited the bicyclist in the hospital Wednesday, the injuries he sustained are extensive and he was in no condition to be interviewed.
Also, the driver of the mini van needs to be interviewed as well, he said, and that interview is pending since the man requested to first speak with his lawyer.
Once both drivers have been interviewed and the investigation is completed, Foster said the entire case will be sent to the district attorney’s office for review.
It’s become a much bigger case than a simple traffic violation, Foster said, because the extent of the bicyclist’s injuries are so significant.
Further details will be posted here as soon as they become available.
The cyclist that was hit is a well-know cyclist and an all-around great guy. This year’s Tour de Los Alamos Bicycle Race, being held on Sunday July 12, 2009, will include a fund-raiser in support of the his family. http://tour-de-los-alamos.org
A fundraiser is a good idea. I’ve cross posted this story.
